1. Mercado de Culturas à Luz das Velas
This year’s edition of Mercado de Culturas à Luz das Velas will have the theme "Cultural Expressions of World Heritage," an event dedicated to global culture. As has become customary, symbols will be designed with lit candles along the main streets of Lagoa. The evenings will feature entertainment, concerts, food and drink stalls, and street performers.
Mercado de Culturas à Luz das Velas will take place from 3rd to 6th July 2025.
2. Afronation
This year, the Afronation festival celebrates its fifth anniversary at Praia da Rocha in Portimão, with a line-up full of stars. Artists like Burna Boy, Davido, and Dexta Daps have already said yes, kicking off the 2025 programme, which is still being updated. As usual, the festival promises plenty of music, entertainment, and the afro rhythms that will take over the sands of the Algarve's most iconic beach.
Afronation Festival will take place from the 9th to the 11th of July 2025.
3. Festival da Sardinha
As the name suggests, this festival celebrates the sardine, a beloved summer dish. In Portimão, several local restaurants will showcase the best of this traditional meal, including sardines, boiled potatoes, and the classic Algarve salad. The food and drink stalls will also highlight regional sweets, local crafts, and live music performances.
Over six days, enjoy a variety of concerts along the city’s riverside (line-up to be updated).
4. Mar Me Quer
The Mar Me Quer Festival will return to Portimão in 2025, bringing a young and vibrant energy to the event. Set in one of the most dynamic cities in the Algarve, the festival will feature performances from artists such as Dillaz, Da Weasel, Plutonio, and Soraia Ramos. With its unique decorations made from recycled ocean materials, the event not only promises a fun experience but also aims to raise awareness about the urgent need to protect our planet.

5. Fatacil
It’s impossible not to have heard of Fatacil, the Algarve’s largest fair dedicated to crafts, tourism, agriculture, commerce, and industry. But if you haven’t, allow us to introduce it.
Held every August, this event offers visitors the chance to explore a range of stalls showcasing traditional crafts, gastronomy, national tourism, and products from across Portugal. The highlight is the evening concerts featuring artists from various musical genres (line-up to be announced).
Fatacil will take place from the 22nd to the 31st of August 2025.
6. Banho 29
One of the most anticipated events for the people of Lagos and many visitors are eager for this annual historical re-enactment. Tradition dictates a sea bath on the night of 28th to 29th August. It is believed that on this night, a single dip is worth 29 and brings a form of purification. The event symbolises the end of summer when farm workers travel to the coast and take part in this ritual throughout the night.
Today, it has become a lively celebration, with music and traditional delicacies filling the streets of Lagos. The programme for this year’s event has yet to be announced, so keep an eye on the local council’s page and don’t miss the chance to take a midnight swim on 28th August!
7. MotoGP 2025
The world’s most prestigious motorcycle championship returns to Portugal. The 22 best riders on the planet, astride the fastest bikes, will reach speeds of over 350 km/h. Expect an electrifying atmosphere, with special attention on Miguel Oliveira, who will be representing Portugal on the starting grid.
